Blockchain games have been around for a while now and with every passing month, we get the news of an upcoming blockchain-based game. in this article, we will be taking you back to the first ever Blockchain-based mobile game – Spells of Genesis(SoG).
Spells of Genesis (SoG) is a blockchain-based puzzle game with a fantasy RPG feel. It is also referred to be a Collectible Card Game(CCG) because it incorporates characters from digital cards. Continue reading to learn more about this game and how it works.
What is Spells of Genesis?
Spells of Genesis(SoG) is a Blockchain-based game that combines Trading Card Game (TCG) functionalities with the point-and-shoot aspects of arcade games. The game allows its players to collect and combine cards to create the strongest deck in order to fight their enemies.
Unlike most blockchain games that require you to have a Metamask wallet and some cryptocurrency in order to play, you do not need any cryptocurrency or special software to begin playing the game because most functions of the game run on a centralized server.
How Spells of Genesis Works
Spells of Genesis, unlike some other blockchain-based games, has real and interesting gameplay that requires accuracy to point and shoot at your enemies as well as strategic skills.
You begin with a four-card deck that will act as your Team. To shoot, aim with your finger and then release the screen. Your objective is to hit your opponents as many times as possible. When you hit an adversary, you deal a set amount of damage to them. Attempt to destroy them before they shot!
Each card has its own set of qualities (health, speed, etc.) and some have a special power called a “spell.” Cast spells against your adversaries to deal extra harm to them or to protect your team!
Graphics & Sound
Spells of Genesis are not going to burn your retinas out with graphical glory. It’s a mobile collectible card game with block-breaking gameplay at the end of the day.
There’s really not else to say about them, you’re shooting different colored orbs of magic at stationary icons for enemies. It’s exactly what’s required for this genre without any ‘pudding over-egging’ taking place.
Difficulty
The overall level of Spells of Genesis begins relatively low and can get a little too easy depending on how lucky you are with your cards. If you have a team consisting of rare or powerful cards, you’ll breeze through any level as long as you have a basic understanding of geometry.
If you try to get through on basic or common cards, you’ll struggle on higher levels because your poxy, pitiful assaults won’t be able to take out the adversaries quickly enough.
Controls
Because it’s a mobile game, the controls are delightfully simple: tap and swipe. If you wish to choose something, tap the screen. Swiping is used for everything in the game. Swipe to aim and then let go. I can’t imagine many people will have difficulty with any of the controls.
Gameplay
This is when things start to get interesting… Unlike most collectible card games, Spells of Genesis requires you to draw from a deck of cards to put soldiers and monsters, adorn them with spells, and typically try to decrease your opponent’s life points to zero before they do the same to you.
After selecting your team of up to four cards (each with their own health and damage), you’re led to a screen with your opponents spread around it. You use each card, in turn, to hurl a fireball or attack one of your opponents.
You aim in a very similar way to many mobile snooker/pool games, and your shot can bounce if it hits one of the walls. So, line up your shot and attempt to hit your enemies, easily.
The attack and health scores of the various cards vary; certain attacks will travel further and bounce more. In general, as you might expect, the rarer the card, the more powerful it is. Some cards feature abilities that cause small floating orbs to appear on the screen. If you hit these orbs with your shots, they will deliver additional effects.
Some orbs destroy shields or heal your teammates, while others provide you with an extra attack or improve your damage against the adversary. In general, they are good goals to strive for and can mean the difference between winning and losing.
Also, the enemies counter-attack too.. they have an attack and a health pool, as well as a number on them, indicating how many turns you have until they attack again.
As far as hybrid gameplay goes, it feels rather unique. I’ve never tried this combination before, but it works for me. There appear to be so many collecting card games available that it is refreshing to see something new.
Spells of Genesis Tokenomics
The game has an in-game currency – (BCY)
BITCRYSTALS (BCY)
BitCrystals are the currency of Spells of Genesis (BCY). These coins were initially sold to raise funds for development, with the core team holding 30% of the supply to cover continuing expenses.
BCY can be used to buy cards and exchanged on cryptocurrency exchanges such as Poloniex. The supply of BCY is limited to 100 million units, and the economic model is deflationary. Every month, the founders destroy half of the BCY earned from card sales. This decreased supply raises scarcity, which has the potential to improve the value of BCY for investors.

What is Blockchainization?
Blockchainization is a Spells of Genesis feature that allows you to convert your in-game cards into standalone, marketable blockchain assets. Only cards with the highest development can be blockchainized. When you blockchainize a card, you can select which blockchain you want to receive your card on.
Spells Of Genesis Cards
Each character possesses two stats. The first stat indicates how much damage the player does when shooting an enemy. The second indicates how much damage the character can withstand before dying. This should be familiar if you’ve played Magic: The Gathering or other CCGs.
On top of each enemy’s icon is a green health bar. This health bar depletes when your characters inflict damage to him. The opponent will be eliminated when it fully vanishes. You win if you kill all of your foes before they kill all of your characters.
You will lose if all of your characters die before you can kill all of your foes. As you progress through the levels, more of the map becomes exposed to you. This allows you to face even greater challenges, including levels with moving boxes and other more complex obstacles and, as you might expect, you’ll earn more rewards.
The majority of SoG cards are playing cards. They are available for purchase in-game, but only on the developer’s central server. Some of the cards, however, are blockchain cards. They must typically be acquired from a merchant or developer. Blockchain cards are owned by the players and can be traded or sold via the Book of Orbs app.
This implies that not all of the cards in the game are NFT. You can go after them if you want to try to win some cryptocurrencies via the SoG system, or you can simply enjoy the game without having to invest in it. It is all up to you.
